About Me.....
Hello, my name is Julie Alton. I am currently a Technology Integrationist for the Harrisburg Middle Schools. I have taught computer courses in grades K-12. I have obtained a Master’s Degree in Instructional Technology, and am currently endorsed as both a K-12 Educational Technology Teacher and a K-12 Technology Integrationist. Previously, I taught 8th Grade Computers and was the Middle School Integrationist. In my current role, I assist teachers in using new technology such as Chromebooks, Windows RT tablets, iPads, iPods, develop Wikis and websites, and troubleshoot issues ranging from Microsoft Office to broken computers. At Washington High School, I was a Computer Science Teacher, teaching Graphic Design, Desktop Publishing and Web Design. I won the 2009 Sioux Falls School District Quality Fair in the area of Instructional Strategies and Innovation. At the Vermillion School District, I served as a technology instructor, the middle school technology coordinator and assistant web designer. At St. Matthew School, I over saw the completion of a new computer lab, installation of a new server, developed instruction for students grades K- 8th grade and maintained the network and computers in the school. I was selected for and completed the first 21st Century Master Teachers Academy and Project Integrate. I was awarded the Most Valuable Player Award for my assistance to others in Project Integrate. I have presented technology topics at the second 21st Master Teacher Academy, 2010 and 2011 Educators Summer Symposium, 2012 & 2013 TIE Conference, two Apple Events hosted in Harrisburg as well as professional development for other districts.
In my personal life, I am married to Dr. Drew Alton, an Augustana College Physics Professor. I have three children, Kaylyn (14), Chance (11) and Harrison (4). All of my children have special needs. Between the three of them, we have educated ourselves on Dyslexia, ADHD, absence seizures, extreme prematurity and anxiety. We are also very nerdy. We are into most things that fall into that category (Harry Potter, Science, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc).
